“Play is a manifestation of human energy. Imagination, disbelief, and awe all come together in this playful show that celebrates young experimental artistic collaboration.” - Aline Sol, Performing Arts Curator
In an era marked by rising authoritarianism, polarization, and loneliness, one may feel paralyzed by despair and hopelessness about the future and uncertain about how to move forward. In such a world, prioritizing play might seem naive, frivolous, and even selfish. But what if play is not an escape, but a strategy? Not a retreat, but a rehearsal? Play can be a revolutionary act of imagination; a tool for embodying the people we want to be in the world we yearn to live in. Andre Andreson, Headmaster and Founder of Freedom & Balance, an Art College for “the artist in everyone, delivered a lecture about “aspirational play.” In it, he reminds us that play is about envisioning and building these better futures. When we pretend, perform, costume, and create, we’re not merely escaping our current reality, but prototyping a new one.
